Dibuka dengan interview bersama Nancy Gibbs ini mengarah ke beragam topik seputar nilai-nilai perusahaan, politik, privasi, pendidikan dan kesehatan serta pentingnya regulasi dalam industri teknologi.
Mengenai corporate value, Cook beranggapan kalau setiap individu sudah seharusnya memiliki “nilai” masing-masing.
Perusahaan sendiri tidak lebih dari sekumpulan individu yang masing-masingnya memiliki nilai. Sebuah perusahaan sudah seharusnya memiliki nilai tersndiri.
Begitu pula dengan Apple, Tim Cook menilai perusahaannya selalu memiliki nilai yang unik dan sangat penting bagi perusahaan.

It’s been an interesting time period to be a CEO, I’ve always deeply felt that people should have values, a corporation is nothing more than a collection of people, and therefore by extension a corporation should have values.Sebagai contohnya adalah bagaimana Apple telah secara khusus memperhatikan lingkungan, pendidikan serta menjaga privasi para pelanggan.
And so, it’s not something unique for Apple, in a way, we’ve also had a set of things that were really important to us and we’ve felt said something about us. Cook menilai setiap aspek dalam teknologi perlu diregulasi agar tidak memberi dampak buruk bagi lingkungan sosial.
Cook juga merasa banyak perusahaan teknologi yang telah lalai serta mengabaikan banyaknya kerugian sosial yang ditimbulkan dari berkembangnya industri teknologi yang mereka bangun.
Technology needs to be regulated. There are now too many examples where the no rails have resulted in a great damage to society. When things are out in society and they don’t represent the true cost, then you need to do something about it. … You have to regulate it. Ketika ditanya mengenai seberapa yakin Cook tentang regulasi yang telah disusun pemerintah AS, Cook dengan tegas menjawab, “Aku tidak yakin.”
Tim Cook sendiri memiliki pandangan yang sejalan dengan General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) di Eropa yang telah menyusun regulasi tetap terutama masalah privasi pengguna.
I’m not confident (crowd laughs) is the short version of the statement. I think this is an example where Europe is more likely to come up with something. GDPR isn’t ideal, but GDPR was a step in the right direction. This is on the privacy side, obviously.
